  1. What is the LAARC?
  2. The Lake Area Activity and Recreation Center.

  3. Why does the community need the LAARC?
    1. An indoor place for the entire family to go for recreational and leisurely activities.
    2. A place for our youth to grow and develop.
    3. A place for seniors to enjoy.

  4. How will our community fund this project?
    1. The city of Devils Lake has approved a vote for $19.5 million through sales tax for this project. There is also a plan in place to raise an additional $3.5 million through grants, private donors, and fundraising. There will be NO property tax increase for this project.
    2. Sales tax would increase .05 percent or ˝ percent for this project. Taxable items include: clothing, sporting goods, carpet and furniture, art, tobacco products, etc. Nontaxable items include: grocery store food for home consumption, cars, and farm equipment.

  5. What could the membership fees look like?
  6. The Devils Lake Park District has reviewed other membership structures through out the state with similar facilities and plans are to implement an affordable fee structure similar to those facilities similar to Valley City’s Gaukler Center. There will be scholarships and financial assistance available according to a household income levels. Fees will be evaluated on an annual basis for maximizing usage of the facility and programs.

  7. What amenities will be included in the LAARC?
  8. Walking/jogging track; swimming pool with lap/lesson area, large hot tub, pool party room, and zero entry swimming area for youth and toddlers; recreational basketball/volleyball courts; multi activity court for a wide variety of activities and purposes; indoor playground; community/meeting room; drop off day care for those that are using the facility; cardio and weight training area; group fitness rooms; racquetball courts/golf simulator areas; physical therapy room; concession/kitchen area; locker rooms for men, women, and family; lounge area; and 200’ x 85’ ice sheet for skating and hockey purposes during the season and open area for multi-use in the off season.

  9. How will the LAARC be staffed?
  10. The LAARC will be staffed by the Devils Lake Park District. Yes, additional staffing will be need both full and part time purposes. Also, the Devils Lake Park District Administrative offices will be located in the LAARC.

  11. How will the LAARC generate revenue?
  12. The LAARC will generate revenue dollars through, memberships, day passes, rentals, user contracts, tournaments, special events, naming rights, donations, grants, and partnerships.

  14. How and when do I vote?

    You can vote at the Memorial Building on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 8:00am – 7:00pm or vote by absentee ballot by contacting the Devils Lake City Offices at 662-7600 and have them mail you an absentee/mail application. Only Devils Lake City residents are allowed to vote.

Winter Swimming at NDSD will begin this Saturday, November 18th and will be held most Saturdays until April.
